Strata Property Agent Licensing

A top priority for SPABC is to tackle the B.C. property management industry’s critical skills shortage caused by the rapid growth of the industry in the province. This combination means there are an unprecedented number of career opportunities in this exciting industry for anyone who chooses to become a professional strata property agent. The industry attracts not only people embarking on their first careers, but those looking for meaningful change for their second or even third careers.

In 2006, British Columbia became the first province in Canada to license strata property managers. This licensing is overseen by the Real Estate Council of BC. To become licensed, you need to attend the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business Strata Management Licensing Course. The course is flexible in order to meet the needs of busy adult learners, with just enough structure to ensure high-quality learning. You can register at any time during the year for this self-paced blended learning course. This blended-learning program requires students to complete all work within one year and achieve a 70 percent overall grade to be eligible for licensing. Those who have previous education or experience they feel would exempt them from either the Licensing Course or Examination should review RECBC’s Education Exemption Guidelines.

SPABC also provides education to members with updates for legal, industry or governmental topics at luncheons and other professional development events.
